IDOE’s Office of Special Education is updating its monitoring procedures for local educational agencies (LEAs) due to changes in federal guidance. Effective immediately, IDOE will shift to a new monitoring schedule where approximately 70 LEAs will be reviewed annually. The monitoring cycle will follow a six-year cohort schedule, with adjustments based on an annual risk assessment. Each LEA will be monitored at least once during this six-year cycle. All LEAs will be monitored annually through a risk assessment and a self-assessment process to ensure all LEAs are meeting compliance standards.
These changes are necessary to maintain compliance and ensure that students receive high-quality services. IDOE will provide resources and guidance to support LEAs through this transition.
